Packing a Carry-On Bag (Short Trip Part 2)

I almost never go completely carry-on when traveling.  It's a hassle to plan what can and cannot be taken and you never know if there will be enough room on the plane for everyone's bags.  So, usually, I just bring a bag for under my seat and rest goes in checked luggage.  However, for my most recent trip to New York for my niece's wedding, I decided to only take carry-on bags.  ***For a more detailed view, see the video linked at the end of this post.***

As you can see, I have a hard-sided suitcase, which is durable and really nice.  This is the bag that I put in the overhead compartment on the plane, so I did not put anything in this bag that would need to be removed for security.

On the left, I packed mostly clothing because there is a flap that zips shut.  I also put one pair of shoes on this side.  I put each pair of shoes in a little, flimsy bag to keep them from touching my clothes.

In the flap pockets, I stuffed underwear and socks on the other side I put two more pairs of shoes, makeup and toiletries bags (minus anything containing liquids), and my hair brushes.

Everything fit nicely and it wasn't too heavy.  The best part was that I never had to open the bag at anytime during the journey through airports.

Be sure to check out Part 3 of this travel series next week.  In that post and video, I will show my "Comfort Carry-On Bag" which contained the liquids I had to remove for going through security, my electronics, and other items I brought for entertainment on while on the plane.

    1. I have three of those bags. Orla Kylie from Target. I use one for toiletries, one for knitting projects, and one for toting my life planner and iPad to and from work. Love them!

  3. Good tips. You can save a whole lot of money if you just go carry on nowadays, although I have yet been tempted to do it.

    1. I think this was only the second time I've done carry-on only. It's so much easier to check a bag, but thought I'd give it a try. I'll still probably check bags in the future, but nice to know it's possible, if necessary. Thanks for commenting!

    1. I agree that the cost of checking bags is ridiculous. That's why I chose to do carry on for this last trip. It's do-able, but really takes some planning to have everything you need.
