Journey to Walking 26.2—Weather

**This post contains an affiliate link.

We can often use weather as an excuse for not getting out the door to walk, but there are things that can help you to be more comfortable and safe.

Heat

1.  First of all, when it's hot or there's warm weather with high humidity, make every effort to walk in the morning, when it's a bit cooler.

2.  Wear light colored clothing.

3. Wear a light colored hat.  Soak your hat or your whole head when you get hot.

4. Bring cold water along with you and consider bringing a jug of ice water to keep in your car, so you can refill when needed.

5.  Use a product like this one below that has an ice pack you can wrap around your neck to stay cool.

Cold

1.  Dress in layers.

2.  Wear a hat.

3.  Wear gloves.

4.  Wear warm socks.

5.  Stay hydrated.  Your body can warm itself better when you're hydrated.

Ice

1.  Be careful not to slip on icy roads and sidewalks.

2.  Use a product like the one below to strap on your shoes for better traction.

Wind and Rain

Sorry, folks!  I have no suggestions for these two conditions.  I hate them both.  I'm open to suggestions.

Happy walking!

  2. I joined a gym in January, no more weather excuses. Unless you count "I don't want to drive to the gym in the snow" hahaa

    1. I hope the gym is working out for you. I can never motivate myself to go. There's something about being outside that motivates me... unless it's raining or really windy! :)

  3. I have gotten to when it is too hot or cold for me to walk outside to head to the grocery store or Walmarts and I walk the aisles and just people watch. So when it rains I will be doing the same thing as it leads to many blog posts.
