Journey to Walking 26.2—Skin

While I love long-distance walking, there are many things that can go wrong with your skin when you're out there for hours.  Let's chat about those.

1.  Be sure to wear the right clothing.  No cotton!  You need a shirt and socks that are made of a wicking fabric.  This fabric will wick the sweat away from your skin and help prevent blisters and chafing.

2.  Wear sunscreen!  We all know this, right?  You need to also be sure to use waterproof sunscreen, so it doesn't drip into your eyes.  Don't forget the back of your neck and the tops of your ears.

3. My go-to product for anti-chafing is Bodyglide Anti-chafe Balm .45 Oz .  This comes in a stick like a deodorant.  Swipe it on any places that tend to chafe.  I used it on the skin under all the edges of my sports bra and on the "chub" below my armpit.

4.  Sometimes I still end up with tender spots during a race, so I carry small packets of this Chamois Butt'r Original 10-pack .

5.  If I have a spot on my feet that tends to blister, I put on moleskin before the race and bring a little with me just in case.

6.  And I just recently heard from a reader (Hi, BobbyAnne) that Compeed Blister Relief Pack Plasters - Medium - White are great for covering blisters and don't come off while walking.
