Journey to Walking 26.2—Safety

When you're out walking there are always things to consider in terms of safety.  Here are a few things I keep in mind.

1. Walk in the direction of traffic. You don't want to have your back to oncoming traffic, especially if you're not walking on a sidewalk.

2. Don't walk the same path day after day. Having the same routine can make you a target for a person with bad intentions.

3. Bring a cell phone.

4. If you're walking in a remote area, bring pepper spray and have it in your hand and ready to use.  Here's the one I recently ordered from Amazon--SABRE RED Pepper Spray - Police Strength - Compact, Pink Case with Quick Release Key Ring (Max Protection - 25 shots, up to 5X's more) (Affiliate link):

5. Be aware of your surroundings.  Especially in remote areas, pay attention.  As you enjoy the scenery, scan the environment and look behind you periodically.

6. Don't walk in the dark.  Among other things, you may trip on a rock or a raised part of the sidewalk.

7. Walk with a friend.

  2. Great tips Jen! It's important that we keep our own safety a top priority and it's so easy to forget the simple things. Especially liked the tip to not walk the same route every day. Switching up where you walk and/or what time of day you walk is very important. It also keeps you from getting too "comfortable" and forgetting about the other safety tips as well.

    1. Yes, we get in our routines and don't think about what could happen. I'm not about living life in fear, but caution is good. Glad this was helpful. :)
