Using a Budget System

Who likes following a budget?  It can be frustrating.  After all, we just want to be able to spend money and not think about how much we do or don't have.  Well, the reality is that we need to keep an eye on our finances and having a simple budget system makes it less frustrating.

My husband and I use a system where we spread out the money from each paycheck into categories for everything we spend money on—food, mortgage, car insurance, utilities, vet bills, etc.  Be sure to check out the video below for more detail:

The photo below shows one page of our budget book with some of the categories:

The photo below is the last page of our budget book that shows which categories get money from which paycheck.

In our book, each category has an amount of money beside it so we know how much to put in each column.  The beauty of this budget is that it tells you what you CAN spend rather than what you cannot spend.  This will make a lot more sense after watching the video above, so be sure to check it out!

    1. I'm so glad to hear it was helpful. If you haven't watched the video, be sure you do because it will make more sense. When we started using this system about 18 years ago, it was a marriage saver! :) Thanks for stopping by!
